3 Quick Blog SEO Tips
Your blogging future depends on the amount of traffic you receive, which may well depend upon your search engine rankings. If your blog is properly Search Engine Optimized (SEO’d), then you’ll rank higher in the search engines and ultimately the increase your blog traffic significantly…
SEO is not confined to only keyword research and keyword targeted content. A lot of things have to be kept in mind to gain good reputation with your readers as well as search engines. Now I am going to share some of the most simple and useful tactics to gain SEO benefits.
- Social Bookmarking - This is the one tactic which most of the successful bloggers have been using to increase traffic and links to their blog or website. Make sure to bookmark each post you publish. I personally use StumbleUpon, Digg and Facebook to bookmark my each post and the results have been great so far. As the search engines see your website on more and more social sites, they give more value to your site. Also, bookmarking helps your content to spread in your community, friends and followers. Provide share bars in your posts so that your readers can easily promote your content.
- Keyword in anchor text of backlinks - Make sure to include your main keyword in backlinks you create . Your keyword tells search engines about your blog and is a decisive factor in the search engine rankings of your blog. For variations, slightly change the anchor text but the main keyword must be there. (note from Jym: read my post on Anchor Text for more on this topic)
- Go for both dofollow and nofollow - Generally, many bloggers only focus on building dofollow backlinks and ignore nofollow ones. The fact is that nofollow backlinks hold a lot of significance too. Search engines sometimes consider those websites as spam which have no nofollow backlinks. Focus more on dofollow backlinks from high pagerank websites but do not completely ignore the nofollow ones. (note from Jym: read my post on nofollow and dofollow for a more in-depth look at this)
Above are the most basic seo tips which, if you practice them, will help you create a successful blog and even make money online fast.

Thanks for sharing these great SEO tips, Vineet. I do appreciate them especially Tip #3, which is to go for both do and no follow links. There are high authority websites that implement nofollow and now I know that it is still good to build links on them.
The core of SEO is quality content and along with proven SEO techniques, a website can generate lots of long-term, organic traffic.

interesting insights. personally, i think the keywords may change over time, but the strategies you have given will always apply
Hi Vineet
I totally agree with point 3 about getting nofollow as well as dofollow backlinks to appear natural in the eyes of the search engines. Also on point 1 you mention providing share bars in your posts (like the one on this page?), Jym what plugin is the one you use here, I like the way it slides as you scroll a post, it’s something I’d like to add to my site.

Apologies for the delayed response Beth, and thanks for the question.
I’m using GetSocial at the moment. I actually prefer Sharebar (it’s more customizable) but it hasn’t been working on my blog since the latest WP update.
Personally I like the floating bars at the side of posts as they use a space otherwise empty, and are always easy to find wherever your reader is on the page.
The easier you make it for your readers to share, the more likely that they will!

Hi Vineet – Thanks for the tips. Do you ping your Social Bookmarking links to get them indexed? I’ve been using OnlyWire to SB 40 of the services per blog post, yet I haven’t seen any links so far.

HI Micheal,
Ni I generally do not ping my bookmarks. They get indexed themselves. I do ping my posts and then submit them to bookmarking sites.

Nofollow links are required to balance out the dofollow links. Without nofollow links , dofollow has somewhat less in it.

Hi,
I wasn’t aware that the nofollow links are so significant. It is great you brought that to notice. Thanks
Yes , nofollow links have importance in the total SEO score. Though they do not pass any link juice.
The exact value of nofollow links is subject to some debate but one thing is for sure – you need them.
A link profile which is only composed of dofollow links doesn’t look ‘natural’ and Google rewards natural link building.
Also, although little or no link value/juice is passed through nofollow links, the search robots will in many cases follow the link anyway. Check out my post about nofollow links for more details…
