Better Blogging and Prospecting… with Lady Gaga

Blogging InspirationEver sit down to write a blog post or call a prospect, only to find that you’re uninspired, unmotivated and ‘just not feeling it’?

If you’re blogging as a part of your business, you’ve probably got some kind of marketing plan and blogging schedule in place – at least a posting frequency (if you haven’t, consider it – you’ll see a marked improvement in blog traffic with some kind of a regular schedule in place)

If you’re in an MLM or Network Marketing business then you’ll know that ‘I just wasn’t feeling like calling anyone today’ simply ain’t gonna cut the mustard.

Whether it’s an article you read, or someone you’re speaking to, anything which exudes passion, and infects you with it’s enthusiasm is far more likely to make an impression and elicit a positive response.

Nobody will want to join your business if you sound bored and uninspired when you speak to them. You won’t gain any customers for your products either. And if your blog visitors read between the lines and find your heart’s not in it then guess what? They won’t retweet, share or comment, nor will they be inspired to return to see what you have for them the following week.

If you’re anything like me, you won’t make it to the end of every posts you read – some entice you and engage you to comment and click further, others just feel flat, dull and lifeless – even if they’re covering a subject you’re interested in. And you’re certainly not going to enter into business with someone who doesn’t come across as passionate about what they do.

So the question is, how to inject a dose of energy into your work when you’re not feeling it at the time?

Well – you can’t really fake it, so the answer is an instant state changer, something to give you a lift or shift in the right direction to put yourself in the right state for whatever it is you need to do.

You have exactly what you need right in front of you! (and maybe elsewhere in the room as well). Turn up your computer speakers, stick in a CD, pull up a fave tune on YouTube, or plug in your iPod (or whatever’s your preferred technology) and get some music on.

Music is one of the most powerful triggers there is for changing our psycho-emotional state.

Depending on the state you want to create (and personal taste of course), you’ll listen to something different. In fact, it’s so powerful that music acts as an ‘anchor’ allowing us to re-experience powerful emotional and psychological states connected to the moments which that particular piece of music has been ‘anchored to’ in the past.

Need to feel more energized and up-beat? – Stick on something that gets you pumped up and triggers feelings of power and confidence.

Want to improve mental clarity? – How about some Mozart or another classical composer? (Classical music has been scientifically demonstrated to enhance problem solving faculties and creative thinking abilities)

Writing an emotionally engaging blog post? - Try listening to something that inspires you and touches your heart.

The tunes below are three that I happen to have played recently to put me in the right state for work that needed done – they may or may not be your cup of tea, either way I’ll have something to listen too while I reply to your awesome comments below!

Don’t forget to tweet and Share this post with your networks, and leave a comment here – I’d love to know what gets you ‘in the mood’, and what other tools or strategies you have for getting motivated!

To your Abundance, Freedom and Success…

  2. Great post, Jym.

It is so true that sometimes it is hard to just get into the groove of things. It was a great angle and advise to use our favorite mood music to pull us into a mindset to get down to business.

  4. Hey Jym, you touched on a key point in power blogging – sticking to our confidence boosters for power blogging. I agree with you, not even the most caffeinated coffee can energize a person blogging where they do not have a ‘calling for’.

And, like music – the amount of energy in the written words are easily felt by readers and measured by click-throughs and comments and return traffic.

So, the next time I write a blog post, I’ll remember Lady Gaga:)

That I like very much Stella. Its’ true, caffeine alone doesn’t do the same thing (though some certainly helps!)

It’s true, even if it’s not apparent at first glance, the energy of the author of a post comes through and influences the way we respond when we read something…

Thanks for adding some great value here with your comment :)

Hi Jym! I love this. I’m smiling just thinking about some of my favorite songs. When I’m feeling less than…there’s nothing like a Janet Jackson song or The Rurals, or Jazzyfatnasties…you’ve got me on a roll here. Since you mentioned Lady Gaga, I’ve got Bad Romance playing in my head.

A lazy Sunday morning I like old jazz. When I’m cooking, I like afro-beats. I love music period! Music has the power to create war or peace, I choose peace. Have an awesome day.

  8. Tosin from Home-Based Business Coach says:

    Hey Jym,

You can say that again. I have got a playlist of my favourite rock songs that make me pumped up.

Let me tell you something funny. I remember a day like that I was feeling very unmotivated about business, and didnt want to put on the music because I was afraid I would be motivated and be spurred into action. :) A classic example of being afraid of success, huh? Eventually I did and I got motivated though and that showed me the power of music.

One of the first things I do every morning is watch my Mind Movie and the background music therein is a great inspiration for me.

    I love this post, Jym!

    Cheers!
    Tosin

    • Jym says:

      LOL! Brilliant story Tosin.

Funny how we can sometimes resist something when we know it will push us forward, isn’t it! I guess it’s a challenge we all have to face sometimes.

Glad you found the right tunes to get you over that bump.

I don’t know anything about Mind Movies, but if that’s what inspires you then it gets my thumbs up :)

Thanks for your sharing and support Tosin.

  9. Jym,

    Great tips!

I personally need a charge before a call. So I open up iTunes and get my fix before I dial.

    • Jym says:

Tommy – great word for it: A charge.

Music can really charge you up to get you into the right state for whatever you have to do. We can’t always wait till we ‘feel like it’ so having the right kind of music on hand is very helpful.

      Thanks for commenting mate

  10. Marcus Baker says:

    Hi Jym,

    Loved this!

Music and sound is such a great “state changer” which is why movie score composers are so well paid. They know exactly how to alter the volume, tempo and style to move the viewer to where they want them to be.

We have to see our own lives like a movie so when things are not going as we would like, introducing some music to alter our state of mind is an excellent solution.

I have a selection of music I wake up to in the mornings as I find this always sets my state of mind right from the word go.

I’ll also say that as crazy as this is, when I need to feel more upbeat during my day then I don’t only listen to a piece of music but I sing and dance to it like a crazy man too.

I have no idea what the neighbours must think I do, but it works for me and I’m going to keep on doing it! :)

      You said it Marcus.

Al the subtleties and variations give such control to a skilled composer, and the power to really guide the listener on an emotional journey…

Setting your state for the day with a good morning routine is a fantastic idea. I don’t do that at the moment, I might have to though! I’ll get my daughter dancing with me first thing!

I can imagine you bouncing around… It’s great to move your energy as well – our state is very much tied to our physical posture, a few minutes of madness can really shift any stagnant energy and get us vibrating and ready for action!

Stuff the neighbours! (respectfully of course!)

      Thanks for sharing mate

  11. Lou Barba says:

    Hi Jym,

I think music is a language of its own and a good musician can use it to bring out different feelings from the listener. I like to feel good, so I like music that makes me feel good. I don’t like really loud music, because it hurts my ears…brings life to the expression “It’s time to face the music.” My favorite music is something that makes me admire the skill of the musician.

  13. Tisha says:

    Hi Jym,

You have my favorite pop start on here! She is so crazy and so much fun to watch and listen to.

A charismatic person always draws the biggest audience. A big part of that charisma is energy. When we are doing business with people they can feel our energy weather it’s up or down. The only way for us to get the response we are looking for from our prospects is to be upbeat and energized. That strong, good, energetic feeling we project to them, they are going to want to experience that same feeling too.

Now I going to take some time to do my two step to Lady Gaga. :-)

  14. Hi Jym!

So uncanny of you to write about something that I just did myself! At the start of the Easter week, I was literally staring at the computer screen waiting for some inspiration. I searched for the Top 10 Songs for the week and I started developing an appreciation for the UK sensation, Adele. Her “Rolling in the Deep” song got my feet tapping to the rhythm and I started to, well, sing! Really changed my mood and I was so inspired in no time!

I’ve got a massive amount of admiration for those artists too – and you can certainly see those influences in Lady Gaga’s music and performance. All powerful, independent, creative women (which is inspirational in itself!)

  16. Hey Jym,

What an inspirational post. I love that you’ve taken a problem that all internet or network marketers face — feeling less energetic than normal — and you’ve identified a great way to pump passion into your life. And you’ve shared such a personal side of you, it makes it genuine.

I do something similar, but I tend to watch videos. If I need some inspiration, I’ll head over to YouTube and find some great Jim Rohn videos. If I really need to get pumped up, I will find one of the Rocky videos and engage.

    Thanks for your leadership, Jym.

Jim Rohn is another great source of inspiration, and I can imagine Rocky does the trick too!

Thanks for sharing some of your motivators here too Bob

  17. Hi Jym!

I couldn’t have said it better! :) Music is so powerful for helping me to stay focused, motivated, and excited about what I do! I’ve found that by listening to different types of music, I’m more creative and others I’m more energetic.

My favorite thing to listen to is an intense focus or creative focus cd when I’m writing. I’ve got to rock when I need to clean or work out, and I enjoy listening to instrumental music when I’m reading or studying. I also listen to meditations and positive self talk audios while I’m falling asleep.

The right music for the right moment is the key Heather – as you say, some stimulates creativity, some energizes… It all depends on what you need at the time – it’s good to have a wide range to choose from for all occasions!

Nice that you mention guided meditations and spoken word as well – these certainly have a place as well, and can be exceptionally powerful tools for self development in the long term too.

Thanks so much for adding these ideas!

  18. Janet says:

Jym, aloha. What a terrific idea for a post and its execution. Thx also for the clips that you included. The photography in the last two is spectacular. It will be a pleasure to listen to them as intended rather than by scanning with my cursor.

You are so right that music lifts you up, pumps you up, inspires you and soothes you. All you need to do is to decide where you want to go.

What I do when I find the ideas are not flowing is read through some quotations. Usually when i do that, a quote, phrase or word will resonate with me and I then start writing.

Something else that people can do is pick up a book on “how to” tips or techniques for our industry and then write it in their own words. If each of us were to write about how to invite, set the appointment, follow up, etc. we would say it differently.

Thx so much, Jym, for sharing some of your favorites with us. Best wishes for a terrific week. Aloha. Janet

      Definitely keeps things interesting!

  19. Cathy says:

I often use music as a way to get then energy to do an unpleasant task such as cleaning house and I like to listen to music when I’m upset too. It calms me down.

I really loved those last 2 videos. The scenery was gorgeous and music was beautiful. I don’t know making me inspired but it sure made me feel peaceful and serene.

    • Jym says:

Hey Cathy, nice to have you here.

Music can put us in the right mood for all sorts of things, can’t it… Cleaning is a great opportunity to listen to something energizing, I find (usually some thumping trance music for me)
