MLM Lead Generation has nothing whatsoever to do with fish. Seems pretty obvious, but there’s a powerful marketing principle at work here which has to be understood for marketing success.
When you’re producing and sharing content as a part of your online MLM Lead Generation campaign, this key principle absolutely must be considered if you want people to stick around and pay attention to what you have to say.
Online MLM Lead Generation Key: RELEVANCY
When people find you on Google, or click your content links on Social Media sites, What do they find? Is the information you provide the information that they are looking for when they click that link?
Keywords need to be something that you can actually rank for (not too competitive) which is also profitable. But above and beyond that, your keywords need to be highly relevant to the content they point towards, otherwise you have people looking for MLM Lead Generation Tips confused as to why they’re reading about fish.
Content Headlines are what cause people to click the links you’ve shared through Social Media. There’s an artful balance to be struck between writing attractive headlines which entice people to click, but also being 100% congruent with the content it links to.
The same principle applies at every transition stage of the marketing process. If people sign in to your opt-in box thinking that they’re getting one thing and then they receive another, do you think they’re going to continue to trust you, follow up your offers, be open to you business?
Applying this principle on an even more subtle level, it’s also worth considering consistency in terms of style and energy of your content, not only relevancy of subject. For example, if you read a vibrant and chatty article about MLM Lead Generation, then then sign up for an mailing list which simply pumps out a series of dry facts about products you’re promoting, it doesn’t work. There must be a commonality of rhythm and style, or you’ll lose people along the way.
Choosing the right hooks, both for the search engines and for people is part of the art of MLM Lead Generation Online.
Identify your target market. Put information they want in the places where they are looking for it. This is the key not only to MLM Lead generation but to marketing in general. Why spend time and energy trying to entice people to look at your business who are not interested in building a business? It will never work!
So here’s the message – Choose your hooks wisely. Make sure that your keywords are not only rankable and profitable but also RELEVANT. Make sure your ads, links and headlines are tempting bait which fits with your content (OK, so MLM Lead Generation does have something to do with fish but only figuratively).
MLM Lead Generation is not just about generating volume, it’s about attracting quality people who are interested in what you have to offer. Keep each step in your marketing funnel consistent with the other steps and your business will grow!

Jym, I agree with Martin. You are apparently very good at SEO and you are a superlative writer. I found your site by Google-ing a certain keyword phrase and because of your ingenious interlinking, have been led from one interesting article to another to another. You should write an ebook on SEO.
I decided to comment on this particular article, because I did read a post on someone’s site that began by talking about Nemo and I was confused at first as to why they were talking about a fish on a marketing site. Eventually they did tie the analogy in with the theme, but I agree with you…keep it relevant.
I once wrote a blog post on Facebook fan pages to share with my marketing community how to set up a reveal tab (it was for fbml), but it brings in tons of traffic each day from people just looking for fan page information and not marketing. How do I fix that? I never intended the post to rank so highly in Google and get that much attention. It is merely a tutorial, like many of my other articles.
I’m going to bookmark your site. I really enjoy your writing style. And I’m Tweeting, Google Plusing, and Facebook Liking it, too.

Why thankyou Getzie and it’s a pleasure to receive such an encouraging and interesting comment.
Strange that you should mention the SEO e-book, I’m working on the early stages of one right now (stay tuned!)
You asked a great question here and it’s too much to answer in a comment (perhaps it calls for a post of it’s own!) however here’s a couple of thoughts which may help:
1. Write a post about what those people are looking for and link to it right at the top of your post.
2. Adapt your post to fit the traffic which is finding it (why not capitalize on the Google ranking?!)
3. Re-SEO the page for a more targeted keyphrase (not as recommended, since you’re getting traffic, no need to turn it away!)
I have a couple of issues like this myself which I’ve worked on a little with all of these options.
My feeling is basically to run with it and adapt to give the new visitors what they’re looking for and draw them into your blog, unless they’re really not your target market at all in which case… Cut them loose!
I hope that helps, glad you like the info here and hope to see you around.
Thanks for the great comment and shares!

Excellent post Jym,
I love the analogy, and I also love how you always give value in your posts.
One thing you seem pretty good at is SEO, and I appreciate how much you help us with all of this information.

Sharing relevant value is absolutely the aim of this blog, and SEO is one of the topics I’ve really enjoyed studying and implementing. I’m not a master of it yet, but have a few tips and tricks to teach and share!
Quantity, yes, but quality as well? Traffic doesn’t mean one whit if it’s nothing but bots or tire-kickers when you’re talking about online marketing. If titles are supposed to be eye-catching as well as keyword friendly, do sub-headers in a blog post do as well when talking about SEO?

Nothing worse than clicking on a link or search result to find a page that has nothing to do with what I was looking for.

Hi Jym,
Love the fish analogy and the picture
You’re so right about relevancy. You don’t want to target the wrong bunch and have people hitting the back button as soon as they land on your site.
Thanks for sharing your insights, Jym.

Hi Mavis,
Thanks, I’m glad you like them.
You summed it up – pulling in visitors who simply hit the back button is just a waste of your effort and their time.
Better to keep it relevant!
Jym,
This is a great post, I really enjoyed it! The title was catchy and you made excellent points. I especially appreciated the point about not trying to entice people who aren’t interested in being in a business.
When I started my blog last year I started it as solely a personal development blog with marketing in mind but I wasn’t blogging for marketers. Now that I’ve changed the look of my blog I’ve also changed the tagline and my focus is moving toward personal development and marketing together.
I still have a lot to learn in this area! Thanks for sharing your thoughts,
Stacy

Glad you enjoyed it Stacy
It’s really not worth pushing your products or opportunity on people who aren’t interested, if you’re doing that, no need to bother going online – just harass your friends, family and the people next to you in the supermarket queue.
The great thing about internet marketing is that it connects so many people that those who are interested in what you have to offer are out there, you just have to find them. No need for beguiling unsuspecting visitors to your blog and persuading them to opt-in by any kind of pretense…
Interesting that you mention your unifying of marketing and personal development – I also love the realm where these two subjects crossover… They certainly go hand in hand if you want to succeed!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts here Stacy
Hi Jym,
I’m digging the analogy and the pic. I have to admit I was going to read the post anyway but Nemo hooked me
As you note the goal is to get people to stick around and pay attention. Once they’re hooked what are you going to offer your visitors? This is the make or break point.
I struggled with this one for quite a while on my blog. I flopped around – like a fish – moving between personal development, writing about a home based opportunity, law of attraction, etc. I finally began to generate an increased number of leads when I decided on a niche and stuck to it.
Prospects respond well to clarity. Be clear on what you have to offer by building each post around a niche specific keyword, be persistent in using this strategy and eventually you will generate plenty of leads through your blog.
Thanks for sharing your insight Jym.

Nemo was pretty cool, wasn’t he?
You summed it up – once they’re hooked, you have to have something to offer which they actually want.
It’s tricky deciding how focused your niche should be. I’m in a similar position to what you describe, with a foot in both the inner ‘mindset’ stuff, and the MLM Lead Generation side of things. the way I see it, they’re flip sides of the same coin, but I understand why it may work better to focus on one. Something to think about…..
Love the tip you added there about clarity – the underlying purpose (or lack of it) will determine the effectiveness of any post…
Thanks for adding your valuable thoughts to the discussion Ryan
Hey Jym
Nice Tips. Relevancy is truly important, but I like the fish picture; still adds a nice touch to the topic. Keeping both the title and the story congruent with each other is important, so the readers can kinda get a general idea what they are getting into. But I personally like to keep a little mystery in the headline in some of my articles to peak curiosity. Thanks for sharing this
Steven Dean
Thankyou Steven.
Glad you like my fish, he’s kinda cute. Including him in the post was my attempt at irony.
Giving people an idea what they’re getting into is exactly it. If your visitors suddenly find themselves in a completely different space unannounced, they’ll more than likely click away.
I agree with you about the mystery. You want to give enough to tempt people, but not enough to reveal the whole post without them reading it.
Thanks for adding some value here with your thoughts mate
Nice Post Jym!
It’s a good skill to master the art of making witty, but relevant headlines. If you can do this correctly, people will be all over your content as well as read it for the information.
If a post lacks relevancy, the reader will just skim through and close your blog window. Your information MUST relate to the title and provide value.
See you later
Adrian Padua
Headline writing is an art in itself Adrian.
Of course, if you master the art of writing headlines, you need to have something behind it, and that needs to be relevant or the people who’ve clicked in will click out again very quickly…
I think you understood the point perfectly!
Hi Jym,
I love the post and I agree that what we have in our content needs to be relevant. I, for instance, blogged about the girl scout law and how it should be a law for marketers who are marketing to women. You have NO idea, how much traffic that has brought me (hint: blogging about girl scouts might be a great niche!) but it’s increased my bounce rate because the people who end up on my blog are looking for girl scout stuff, not marketing information. It’s one of my most popular posts, and I haven’t been sure what to do about it, since marketers seem to enjoy it as well. But, I digress…staying relevant is much more important than I ever realized!
Thanks for the great post!
Heather

I was looking back at keywords I’ve ranked for but couldn’t find a story like this, so I’m glad you shared yours…
It illustrates the point perfectly. People looking for girl scout info are wasting their time on your site (and ruining your stats!). I guess there’s no real harm in this case, if your genuine visitors are enjoying the post, but obviously there would be no point in deliberately getting placed high in the search engines for such a keyword
These kind of ‘accidents’ are not such a problem, it’s the process of spending time and energy attracting traffic which simply will never convert which has to be avoided!
Thanks for adding this extra value with your story, I’ll have to read that post sometime…
Hi Jym,
I like that fish analogy, awesome. Thanks for sharing.
There’s another issue with fish: If MLM lead generation only is about selling affiliate products, it’s pretty selfish, in my opinion. So beware of people who want to sell fish – that smells like old fish
With that said, I fully agree with you that there has to be a high congruence between the headline and the content.
Thanks for sharing your insights.
Take care
Oliver
Oliver Tausend invites you to read…A Blog Challenge And Nothing But Excuses
Love your analogy too Oliver.
I’ve nothing against relevant affiliate marketing in the correct context. But sometimes it’s taken to the extreme and, as you say, begins to smell a little ‘fishy’.
Congruence is definitely the word of the day on this one!
Thankyou for adding your insights too.
Hi Jym
I really like your point about relevancy! I do hate it when I subscribe to someone’s newsletter and get information that is not relevant to me, my industry or my interests!
I am learning quite a lot from your postings. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Sharon
I completely agree Sharon.
Sometimes things are not quite what we expect, but when we find ourselves bombarded with irrelevant marketing I tend to wonder whether this still works for anyone at all!
You’re most welcome, glad to be of service and thanks for coming by to comment.
