SocialMonkee: Your Bananas for Nothing and Your Backlinks for Free

Social MonkeeSocialMonkee: Free Backlinks

SocialMonkee is a ‘cheeky wee backlinking tool‘ for creating fast, free backlinks, and it’s the subject of todays ‘Resources and Tools for Bloggers’

It’s been a busy week here at Blogger’s Alchemy, so I’m going to keep this review simple.

On top of my newly announced Blogging Schedule, I just had to crank out an extra post to celebrate the release of the fantabulous new CommentLuv Premium – also very handy for building backlinks, as well as Page Rank Sculpting, and a host of other essential Blogging tasks).

And in part it’s because SocialMonkee is plain, simple and easy to use.

Free Backlink Building Tool: SocialMonkee

SocialMonkee Backlinks

SocialMonkee helps you build daily backlinks to your blog posts and pages, for free.

Building backlinks to your blog is a major piece of the ‘SEO puzzle’, and if you want to rank for keywords which are even slightly competitive, you’ll need to have a backlinking strategy in place.

Balanced with quality content and streamlined on-page SEO (my blog post SEO cheat sheet will help you with that – download it for free by clicking on the +1 button below), backlinking is a core task required for getting your blog ranked and search traffic coming in in droves…

SocialMonkee is not a total ‘backlink solution’, but gives an extra ‘boost’ to help lead your posts up the search rankings, and your blog out of obscurity (and into the limelight where it deserves to be, no doubt!).

Here’s how it works:

#1 Sign up for SocialMonkee

#2 Download the Firefox plugin (if you don’t use Firefox, you can do the submission from within your SocialMonkee dashboard)

#3 Open the submission page (or click the ‘Monkey Head’ icon if you’re using the Firefox Plugin)

#4 Enter title, description and tags for your post or page to the submission form. Spin them to provide variation for each submission. (Google don’ like dooplicates!).

There’s a simple, clear instruction video within the submission page which explains how to spin. It’s not something you need to spend long on – remember the idea here is backlinking, not top notch copy, so keep it simple (and remember to include your keywords.

#5 Preview a few times to check your spinning is legible, then hit submit.

#6 Go have a coffee (or whatever) – SocialMonkee will do the rest. If you like, you can check a report of the submissions in your SocialMonkee dashboard.

Over time, SocialMonkee helps buildbacklinks to your blog pages. But it’s possible to accelerate the process…

SocialMonkee ‘Premium’

I’m not signed up for the Premium version of SocialMonkee, but it basically ‘pumps up the volume’ of your submissions. Instead of 25 links to one URL once per day, it allows you to submit 3 URL’s to 100 sites each. Every day.

You can buy SocialMonkee Premium – it’s fairly priced (currently $47), but if you refer 12 other people who sign up for and activate the free version, you get access to it for free. (Cool huh?)

Here’s a run down of the features of both versions of SocialMonkee:

Both Versions:

  • Simple, quick submission process
  • Acess through Firefox or SocialMonkee dashboard
  • Basic spinner to avoid duplicate content type issues
  • All submissions offer dofollow links (here’s a full explanation of ‘dofollow’)

Free Version:

  • 1 submission per day which goes out to 25 sites (up to 750 backlinks per month)
  • Promotional materials to earn a free upgrade to SocialMonkee Premium
  • Simple report, showing around half of your submission results

Premium Version:

  • 3 submissions per day, each to 100 sites (up to 300 backlinks per day or 9000 per month)
  • Advanced video training
  • Option to ‘drip feed’ links over a period of up to 10 days
  • Full reports and records of all your submissions and backlinks
  • Access to RSS feed of submitted links (which you can submit to RSS to RSS submitters for stronger links and faster indexing)

Free Backlinks? What’s the Catch?

There’s no ‘hidden agenda here’. The ‘upsell’ is to SocialMonkee Premium (which with a little work, you can get for free anyway).

Next up, there’s the ad space on the SocialMonkee website (with an Alexa ranking of less than 3k, as online real estate goes, it’s none too shabby)

Finally, as a signed up member of SocialMonkee, you’re on Colin Klinkert’s list (he’s the creator of the service), and will receive ocasional promotional emails, and various affiliate promotions within the SocialMonkee dashboard and submission pages. No biggie.

That’s it.

The Verdict: Bananas for Nothing, Backlinks for Free

SocialMonkee is a very handy tool which will help you build backlinks and improve your search rankings. Result: potentially, more traffic for your blog. And the basic version is totally free. (OK, I admit – no bananas)

If you’re going hardcore into SEO, it’s probably worth getting the Premium version. If not, the 25 links a day from the free version is not to be sniffed at. I’m not a ‘premium user’ yet, but  if enough of you (my lovely readers) sign up for SocialMonkee from the links on my blog, I’ll get to be (so if you’d like to support me – give SocialMonkee a try!)

Well worth the price either way, and well worth the (minimal) effort to sign up and use the service.

Building backlinks is an important part of traffic generation and SEO. Any tool which helps the process in a simple way, gets the thumbs up from me. And SocialMonkee does exactly that.

Sign up now and try it out for yourself.

Social Monkee is doing ok but do those links count at all? When i check my backlinks I never find all the so-called 25 backlinks/day I can only find links I have manually established. No improvement in the least competitive keyword as well…I don’t know

I wondered the same since initially I couldn’t find the links in Market Samurai. So I questioned the SocialMonkee team.

Turns out that the links from SocialMonkee can take some time to get indexed. But I’ve since checked using Google’s Webmaster tools – they eventually show up. The links are good.

    Thanks Jym for this review!

I used Social Monkee before but to be honest, I didn’t see much result. Or I might not utilized it to take maximum exposure. Anyway, I think I will reactive it and see what happens.

    Have a nice day man!

I’m sort of curious to see if this whole SocialMonkee thing works. I’ve heard a LOT of both positives and negatives about it. My site pretty much couldn’t get any lower in Page Rank. So this might be worth a shot. I’ve just had a few friends that’ve said some negative things about the site but I’ve also heard good. So I guess I’ll just have to try it out for myself and see how it goes. I’ll come pack and post to let you all know, if you’re curious.

    • Jym says:

Hi Caldy, apologies for the delayed reply.

Since I wrote this I also heard some negative stuff so I’ve been off to do some homework.

The links SocialMonkee provides do get catalogued, although not necessarily quickly unless you ping the RSS feeds (which you can only get as a Premium member).

That means it can take up to a few weeks for links to get indexed and count towards your ranking.

I’m interested in using it not only to build backlinks to my own posts, but also to my articles or posts on other sites, which link back to my blog – thus making those links more powerful – two tier linking…

    Hi Jym,

Loved the title and had to come over and check out what it was about :)

I haven’t used SocialMonkee as regular as I should. I know it’s a great tool for getting backlinks. Besides, I am only one referral away from the premium version. So I definitely am going to spend more time there in the future.

    Thanks for the reminder!

    Be blessed,

    Hey Jym,

I have been using this little tool for quite some time. However, I have not really tested this backlinking strategies with my campaign so I can’t really tell if it is effective in terms of helping to rank my site. That’s why I haven’t upgraded yet (it is very affordable price…)

I’ve checked out some of the sites they submitted to, which the PR is quite low…Anyway, I can’t complain too much since it is a free service that increase my backlinks…

    Mind to share your experience?

    Cheers,

    • Jym says:

Like you Ming, I don’t have a solid conclusion on the difference to rankings. I’m still testing it.

But the theory is sound. More backlinks is a good thing. The backlinks SocialMonkee provides are dofollow, and (if you want to get clever about it) you can submit the linking pages to build their value as well, thereby increasing the power of those links.

I see this tool as being an additional way to simply build up the number of backlinks to individual pages, and your domain as a whole.

That’s why I’d suggest considering it as a part of a broader link-building strategy.

Thanks for your comment and question mate, I’d love to know if you reach any of your own conclusions about this.

  8. Hi Jym,

thanks for sharing this. I have been using the free version of SocialMonkee for a while now and I am very happy with it. It’s a great service. The paid version, I don’t know. I wonder if it doesn’t create too many back links in a short period of time, what do you think ?

    Take care

    • Jym says:

I guess these things have to be kept in balance Oliver.

The trick here is consistency. Creating 5000 backlinks one week then none for a month sets off alarm bells. But 1, 2 or 300 day in, day out over a prolonged period of time is fine.

One of the extra features in the Premium is the ability to ‘drip feed’ the backlinks for each submission for anywhere up to 10 days.

SocialMonkee is designed with this consideration in mind, I don’t think it creates backlinks on a large enough scale to cause any problems…

Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts here mate, I appreciate it.
